The Boston Red Sox have inquired about San Diego Padres pitcher Dylan Cease, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney.
Olney, issuing a pregame report prior to Boston’s series-concluding matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday, dropped a few details regarding what he’s hearing on the trade front for each team.
“The Red Sox are one of the teams whop have called the San Diego Padres regarding starting pitcher Dylan Cease,” Olney said, per ESPN.
The Padres are considering using the veteran right-hander to improve the team in other areas, according to an earlier report by Olney. San Diego has long been infatuated with Jarren Duran, so perhaps there has been communication regarding a potential swap that would almost certainly include more returning to the east coast.
Cease has registered a 4.64 ERA across 108 2/3 innings this season, which is a down year from his standards. Cease will be a free agent after the conclusion of a season.
