The Boston Red Sox have been named among a long list of suitors for Baltimore Orioles pitcher Charlie Morton.

The New York Post’s Jon Heyman dropped another column full of news and notes on Tuesday, issuing updates on some top storylines that should be followed prior to the Major League Baseball trade deadline on Thursday.

Morton’s market was the big one, and apparently includes six teams: the Red Sox, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays.

Morton, 41, has been less-than-stellar this season, posting a 5.48 ERA across 22 total appearances (16 starts) for the Baltimore Orioles. Boston clearly believes his value is greater than what he’s shown, though, likely looking toward his 2.71 ERA stretch between June 1 and July 12.

It’s a sweet spot, but anyone who acquires the veteran will be looking to find it.

The Red Sox will need to get something done soon, though, as the trade deadline is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on Thursday.
