It’s been a tough summer for Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton. Both NBA superstars watched their teams get eliminated from the playoffs after they suffered the same devastating Achilles injury.
Tatum suffered his in May during the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks, while Haliburton’s came at the worst possible time: Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Both players are currently rehabbing and trying to get back on the court next season, although they may not be able to return until the 2026-27 campaign.
Although they’re Eastern Conference rivals on the court, the two All-Stars appear to have a good, friendly relationship off the court.
During his Tuesday appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Haliburton revealed that he and the Boston Celtics superstar have stayed in touch this summer.

“I have nothing bad to say about Jayson Tatum. That’s my guy. I love him,” said Haliburton, who was wearing a walking boot during the interview.
When McAfee asked if they’ve been talking, Haliburton replied in the affirmative.

“Yeah, we’ve been talking. Of course. We’re going through the same thing,” said the Indiana Pacers guard.
For both of their sakes, it’s good they have someone to talk to who can relate to their experience and the challenges they’re facing during their recoveries. They’re also close in age, which helps.
In Tatum’s case, the Celtics’ roster will look considerably different when he eventually returns. Boston has already traded Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday this summer, and Al Horford is likely to depart as well. Meanwhile, first-round draft pick Hugo González and other youngsters appear poised to step up.

The Celtics and Pacers will likely struggle to compete for a championship next year without their best players, but all they can do is wait and hope that Tatum and Haliburton get healthy and return to form.
