Stephen Curry talked about his retirement from the NBA this week.
During a new interview with Complex’s Speedy Morman, Curry, 37, was asked about how he’s approaching the end of his career. Morman specifically asked Curry about how the four-time NBA champion wants to go out.
“I’m kind of just taking it in two-year chunks,” Curry said.
“I just want to be in a position where … I can say, ‘I’ve done everything I can to get everything out of this game,’ and hopefully I have my health and the choice to say, ‘I’m good.’
“I’m nowhere close to that, though,” Curry clarified.

“So we got some more years from you?” Morman replied.
“For sure,” Curry said.
Curry is under contract with the Golden State Warriors for the next two seasons (per Spotrac). He averaged 24.5 points per game on 39.7 percent from three last season in 70 games played on the way to an All-NBA Second Team selection. Curry also added his eleventh All-Star selection and finished No. 9 in NBA MVP voting. In essence, he’s still playing at the highest level.

Curry will be 39 when his deal with Golden State expires in the summer of 2027, but there’s no reason Curry wouldn’t be able to extend his career into his forties, provided he stays healthy. We’ve seen LeBron James eclipse the 40-year-old mark on an NBA floor (James will turn 41 during the upcoming season), and Curry’s game relies on less athleticism.
Even as Curry’s quickness and agility decline, his value as a spot-up shooter and general offensive orchestrator will persist. Look at how Chris Paul, 40, has continued to run offenses despite a severe drop-off in mobility, and Paul isn’t anywhere close to the shooter that Curry is, in addition to being significantly smaller.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Curry play another four NBA seasons.
