Kristian Campbell delivered a welcome sight to Boston Red Sox fans on Thursday.

Campbell started his big-league career in style, batting .301/.407/.495 through April for Boston. However, the Red Sox sent the reeling rookie down to Triple-A Worcester last month during a lengthy malaise.

That slump has transferred to the minors, but Campbell snapped a power drought by crushing his first home run since getting demoted to the Woo Sox. The 23-year-old pulled a go-ahead three-run blast in the fifth inning of Thursday’s 14-9 loss to Rochester.

Campbell had gone 15 games without homering for the WooSox. He last went deep for the Red Sox on June 8.

Following his torrid April, Campbell batted .159 with two home runs in 38 games before the demotion. He’s now hitting .200/.389/.345 in 72 Triple-A plate appearances.

Despite those doldrums, Campbell remains a vital part of Boston’s future. He entered the 2025 season ranked No. 7 among MLB.com’s top prospects after batting .330 with 20 home runs and 24 stolen bases last year.

A fast start positioned Campbell as an American League Rookie of the Year favorite before his sudden plunge. He’ll aim to regroup and work his way back to Boston’s infield.

“Just take a deep breath and regather myself, that’s really the main thing,” Campbell said after his demotion last month. “I had a really good first month, and I’m just trying to take in a breath and get focused on what I need to get better at and sharpen up some of my skills and just keep developing. I’ll be ready to go again soon.”

Boston hasn’t received much production at second base since sending down Campbell, but Alex Bregman’s return could complicate the neophyte’s path back to Fenway Park.

The Red Sox are reportedly optioniong David Hamilton to Triple-A ahead of Bregman’s anticipated activated Friday. That could signal Boston utilizing a double-play tandem of Trevor Story and Marcelo Mayer with Bregman reclaiming third base.

Campbell has taken reps at first base after struggling defensively in the majors, but he’ll need to start hitting before the Red Sox consider how to work him back into the fold.
