The Boston Red Sox are rolling, and their fans are noticing.
On Monday night against the Kansas City Royals, the Red Sox had a paid attendance of 37,585 at Fenway Park. Not only was that their highest home attendance of the season, but it was also their largest home crowd since Aug. 20, 2019, when they were still the defending World Series champions.
Attendance for Tuesday night’s game was nearly as big, clocking in at 37,013 — the second-highest total of the season. That pushed Boston’s home attendance over the two million mark to 2,016,539, good for second in the American League despite having one of the smallest ballparks in baseball.
The Red Sox won both games, extending their winning streak to seven games and improving to 64-51 — a season-high 13 games over .500. They’ve won 14 of their last 15 home games, their best stretch at Fenway since 2008.
Boston’s attendance surge this week is even more impressive given that both games were on weekdays against a relatively lackluster opponent. Large crowds are typically reserved for weekend games against marquee franchises like the New York Yankees.

There’s been a playoff atmosphere at Fenway Park lately, and Alex Cora feels it. The Red Sox manager felt it when he played there 20 years ago during the club’s historic sellout streak, and he felt it again while managing the 2018 team to a title.
After three years without playoff baseball, Fenway Park is starting to feel and sound like it used to.
“I got a text from (chief baseball officer Craig Breslow on Monday) night about the attendance. Best paid attendance in six years, paid attendance,” he told WEEI’s Rob Bradford. “I was like Monday against Kansas City? Here we go. That’s what it used to be all about here. And that’s what we’re trying to accomplish. You feel the vibe.”

The vibes couldn’t be higher for Boston right now. The Red Sox have passed the Yankees in the standings and are just three games out of first place in the AL East. Their first division title since 2018 is in play, especially if they sweep the Royals on Wednesday.
The postseason is still two months away, but Boston’s fans are already in October form.
