The Boston Red Sox made a major commitment to Roman Anthony, signing the rookie outfielder to an extension on Wednesday.
Anthony will remain in Boston beyond his arbitration years, signing a deal reportedly worth up to $230 million over eight years. The payday comes two months after his MLB promotion.
The 21-year-old started the 2025 season at Triple-A Worcester, where he played for Chad Tracy. The WooSox manager celebrated his former player after the Red Sox finalized the extension, per MassLive’s Katie Morrison-O’Day.
“That’s the type of player you want to have around for a long time,” Tracy said. “Not just because he’s really damn good, but because he’s an amazing person.”
Anthony notched a .982 OPS in 35 games for the WooSox to end the 2024 season. Although younger than most Triple-A players, the outfielder earned a ticket to The Show by batting .288/.423/.491 with 10 home runs for Tracy’s club this year.

Not needing much time to adjust, Anthony has registered a .392 on-base percentage for Boston. His new manager, Alex Cora, already has the newcomer batting leadoff during a playoff race.
Tracy has witnessed considerable talent flow through his WooSox clubhouse. Marcelo Mayer beat Anthony to the big leagues by a couple of weeks, and the demoted Kristian Campbell is currently raking in a lineup also featuring top outfield prospect Jhostynxon Garcia.
Anthony, Campbell and former Red Sox farmhand Ceddanne Rafaela have all signed long-term deals, giving Boston a young foundation to build around for the foreseeable future.
