Trevor Story continued his career renaissance with a significant achievement on Saturday.

Story hit his 20th home run of the season in a 12-1 blowout win over the New York Yankees. Going along with his 22 stolen bases, he joined Nomar Garciaparra and John Valentin as the third Boston Red Sox shortstop to deliver a 20/20 season. Story had achieved the feat three times with the Colorado Rockies, most recently in 2021.

Speaking to NESN’s Jahmai Webster on the field after the game, Story downplayed the individual achievement and focused on the team’s success.

“It’s cool, but the best part is doing it with these guys, with these teammates,” Story said. “This group that we have and the type of baseball we’re playing, that’s what means the most to me. We’re not done. We’ve got a lot of work left to do.”

Story has not played in a postseason game since 2018, but the Red Sox have created a five-game cushion in the American League wild-card hunt. The 32-year-old is eager to play high-stakes games in September and October.

“It’s the best. Playing meaningful baseball with this uniform on — like I’ve said since I’ve been here — is something I look forward to,” he said. “Now that we’re in it, we get to enjoy that. We’re a very confident crew, and we love our chances against anybody.”

After appearing in just 69 combined games over the past two seasons, Story is batting .261/.306/.429 with a 2.6 WAR in 126 games this year. He joined nine other players, including fellow shortstops Francisco Lindor and Zach Neto, in the 20/20 club.
