Jarren Duran produced a special moment in Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, fueling the Boston Red Sox’s triumph with his first career inside-the-park home run.

With runners on first and third, Duran cleared the bases to break a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the fifth. His line drive passed Pirates right fielder Alexander Canario and went all the way to the wall, allowing Duran to touch them all on a ball hit 266 feet.

After the game, via NESN’s coverage, Duran took a playful dig at Red Sox teammate Alex Bregman when asked when he knew he had a chance for a little league home run.

“I knew Breggy was in front of me, so I thought I was gonna have to hold up at three,” Duran said, looking behind for Bregman and laughing.

Kyle Hudson apparently has more confidence in Bregman, as the third base coach directed the All-Star to keep going. That’s when Duran realized he’d need to dig down to follow.

“Huddy was all the way down the line waving Breggy in, and he came back and started waving me in,” Duran recalled. “I said, ‘Oh crap. I’m gonna have to go here.’ I was running out of gas, but I’m just happy it worked out.”

While Duran has piled up doubles (including his 35th of the season on Sunday) and triples, the 28-year-old felt the unordinary moment invigorated the crowd at Fenway Park.

“It’s such a rarity that it’s kind of special for everybody,” Duran said.

Bregman may not be a speedster, but the 31-year-old ran the bases well enough for Duran to collect his 14th home run of the season. The Red Sox improved to 76-62 after avoiding a home sweep.
