Former Boston Red Sox infielder Bobby Dalbec is on the move and could be packing his bags to head overseas.
MLB reporter Francys Romero reported Saturday that Dalbec opted out of his minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers to become a free agent.
“He’ll look for opportunities with an MLB team, and if not, he’ll explore going to the KBO or Japan,” Romero added.
Dalbec started the 2025 season as a minor leaguer with the Chicago White Sox. After getting called up in April, Dalbec played in seven games, hitting .222 while seeing time at first base, third base and shortstop.
The White Sox designated Dalbec for assignment in May. He opted for free agency and then signed his deal with the Brewers.

The Red Sox selected Dalbec in the fourth round of the 2016 MLB Draft. He became a top-100 prospect before making his big-league debut in 2020.
Dalbec turned heads as a rookie, hitting eight home runs with 16 RBIs in just 23 games. The following year was his best in the majors. Dalbec played in 133 games in 2021, setting career highs with 25 home runs and 78 RBIs.
But that’s when things took a turn for the worse. In 2022, Dalbec hit just .215 in 117 games with 12 home runs and 39 RBIs.

The 30-year-old played sporadically for the Red Sox the next two seasons, bottoming out last season with a .133 batting average in 37 games. Boston outrighted Dalbec off the roster in September 2024, clearing the way for him to sign as a free agent with the White Sox last winter.
