A pair of the Boston Red Sox’s top prospects took the field for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday afternoon and their positions on the diamond raised some eyebrows.
“Some interesting positional developments for the WooSox today: Jhostynxon Garcia is playing his first professional game at 1B, and Kristian Campbell is playing CF. Campbell had been only playing IF (1B and 2B) in Worcester until the current series in Iowa,” Alex Speier of the Boston Globe posted on Bluesky.
Jhostynxon Garcia is in his fifth year in the minor leagues and first with Worcester. “The Password” was promoted to the WooSox in mid-May.
Garcia leads Worcester in home runs (17) and is tied for the team lead in RBIs (55) despite playing in just 64 games. Prior to Sunday, the 22-year-old had spent his entire minor league career in the outfield, though he reportedly began taking grounders at first base in early August.

Kristian Campbell cracked Boston’s Opening Day roster as the starting second baseman, but after a hot April, he cooled off significantly in May and was demoted to Triple-A on June 20. Campbell played 59 games at second base, seven in centerfield and two in left field while in the majors.
The 23-year-old has been on fire in the minors lately, raising his totals with Worcester to six home runs and 26 RBIs, along with a .277/.401/.440 slash line across 44 games.
