The Boston Red Sox are reportedly making a pair of roster moves on Thursday, ahead of their huge four-game series in the Bronx against the New York Yankees.
“The Red Sox have designated Abraham Toro for assignment, according to a source. David Hamilton has been recalled,” Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic posted on Bluesky.
Abraham Toro signed with the Red Sox in January after spending the 2024 season the Oakland Athletics.
The corner infielder has played 76 games with Boston in 2025 and 28 contests with Triple-A Worcester. Toro recorded seven home runs, 27 RBIs and a .244/.294/.378 slash line in the majors this season across 279 plate appearances.

The 28-year-old has patrolled first base in 67 games with Boston this season and third base 16 times. With Alex Bregman healthy and manning the hot corner and the recent addition of first baseman Nathaniel Lowe, however, Toro was relegated to the bench during Tuesday’s 4-3 loss against the Baltimore Orioles.
David Hamilton is in his third season with the Red Sox.
The 27-year-old middle infielder has primarily played second base with Boston this season while posting three home runs, 12 RBIs and a .174/.227/.265 slash line across 143 plate appearances covering 69 games. Hamilton is one of the team’s most dangerous weapons on the basepaths, recording 33 steals in 2024 and 17 in 2025.
