The Boston Red Sox are rolling, and Trevor Story is a big reason why.

The Red Sox went 5-1 last week, including a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros at Fenway Park. Story hit safely in all five of Boston’s wins, collecting multiple total bases and scoring at least one run in all of them.

Overall, Story went 9-for-23 during the week of July 28 to Aug. 3, batting .391/.462/.957 with three home runs, four doubles and eight RBI. He was named AL Player of the Week as a result, notching his sixth career weekly award, his second with the Red Sox and first since May 2022.

Warming Bernabel took home NL Player of the Week honors after going 12-for-26 with seven extra-base hits and seven RBI for Story’s old team, the Colorado Rockies.

Injuries have prevented the two-time All-Star from reaching his potential for much of his time in Boston, limiting him to just 163 games from 2022 to 2024. However, he’s finally been able to stay on the field this year, appearing in 110 of the Red Sox’s 114 games.

The result has been Story’s best season since 2021 — his final year with the Rockies. While the 32-year-old shortstop has been up and down this season, he’s slashing .257/.301/.430 with 18 homers, 19 steals (in 19 attempts) and 2.6 WAR.

Story’s resurgence has helped fuel Boston’s, as both have hit their stride after an uneven start to the season. Since June 1, the two-time Silver Slugger winner is hitting .300/.344/.542 with 11 homers, 16 doubles, 46 RBI and 10 steals in 54 games, helping the Red Sox go 35-19 (.648 winning percentage) in those contests.

Now in the fourth year of a six-year, $140 million contract, Story is playing some of his best baseball in years. He’s re-emerged as a force in Boston’s lineup this summer, propelling the club into playoff contention with his power, speed, veteran leadership and steady defense.
