The Boston Red Sox have their closer spot sorted, at least for another year.

According to Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox agreed to a contract extension with Aroldis Chapman that covers the 2026 season, with a vesting option for 2027. The first year of the deal is reportedly worth $13 million, while the vesting option is based on innings pitched.

Chapman has been excellent since arriving in Boston. He’s converted 26 of 28 save opportunities and has a 1.04 ERA. The closer recently said he’s having the most fun of his career.

The Red Sox already signed Kristian Campbell, Roman Anthony and Garrett Crochet to contract extensions. Chapman is the first of the impending free agents to sign. Alex Bregman has a player option after the season. Lucas Giolito also has a conditional option that is likely to vest.

The team has not yet officially announced the extension.
