The Boston Red Sox roster reportedly underwent a shakeup on Monday.
The team claimed catcher Ali Sanchez off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend and decided to activate him on Monday, according to Chris Cotillo.
Sanchez has appeared in 46 career games from 2020 to 2025 with four different teams. He played in eight games with the Blue Jays this season, posting a .571 OPS.
To make room for Sanchez on the roster, the team optioned David Hamilton to Triple-A Worcester, according to Tim Healey. The Red Sox will carry three catchers on the roster between Sanchez, Carlos Narvaez and Connor Wong.
Narvaez caught the final two innings of Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres. He didn’t record an at-bat, but it was the first time he appeared in a game since August 5 against the Kansas City Royals due to knee soreness.

Connor Wong has handled the catching duties in Narvaez’s absence. He went 3-13 with three RBIs and a walk in four games. Wong has played both first and second base in his career and could see innings there late in a game due to substitutions.
The Red Sox start a three-game series against the Houston Astros on Monday.
