Boston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story joined Major League Baseball’s 200 home run club on Tuesday after connecting on a first-pitch slider and depositing it over the left field wall in the second inning off Baltimore Orioles starter Kyle Bradish.

Story’s milestone home run provided all the offense the Red Sox would need, as Lucas Giolito and Justin Wilson combined to shut down Baltimore’s offense over nine innings and seal a 5-0 Boston victory.

Less than a week removed from becoming only the third shortstop in Red Sox history to collect a 20 home run/20 stolen base season, Story became the seventh player since 2016 with 200 career home runs and 150 stolen bases, joining an impressive list featuring Jose Altuve, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, Shohei Ohtani, José Ramírez and Christian Yelich.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Story discussed the importance of scoring runs early in ball games.

“Yeah, it was nice,” said Story. “Obviously, able to kind of strike first there. You felt like you had more than just one run. But yeah, (Bradish) had some good stuff tonight. It was good to get up early.”

While discussing his milestone home run, Story was quick to switch topics, saying his primary focus is on his team winning ball games during the final weeks of the regular season.

“It’s a cool benchmark to hit,” said Story. “You know, trying to pride myself on being consistent. And I feel like the past few months I’ve done more of that, so, yeah, it’s fun. It’s a fun thing to say that I’ve done in my career, but right now, I’m more focused on the win and chasing down that division.”
