After a slow start to the season, Trevor Story has enjoyed a resurgent campaign, quickly becoming one of the best players on the Boston Red Sox’s 2025 roster. And in the process, he’s closing in on potentially breaking a franchise record for the team.
Since his batting average dipped to .214 on June 6, Story has been on fire for the Red Sox. In the 56 games since then, Story is hitting .301 with 11 home runs and 49 RBIs, while also stealing 11 bases.
It’s the latter figure that has Story close to making franchise history. After stealing his 20th base of the year in Boston’s 14-1 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, Story is now tied with Julio Lugo for the most consecutive stolen bases without being caught stealing to start a season.
Lugo was successful in his first 20 stolen base attempts back in 2007 before he eventually got caught stealing on his 21st attempt. If Story is safe on his next stolen base attempt, he will break his tie with Lugo and take sole possession of this franchise record.

This impressive streak is a summation of the success Story has experienced this season. His 117 games are already the most he’s played in a single season with the Red Sox, and his numbers on the year (.256 BA, 18 HR, 75 RBI, 20 SB, .719 OPS) are more in line with what the team expects from him.
Story’s strong season has come at a great time for Boston, as they are in the middle of a serious playoff push. After getting back on track against Houston on Tuesday night, the Sox will look to pick up a series victory in their rubber match with the ‘Stros on Wednesday night.
