Al Horford has found a new home for the 2025-26 NBA season.

Horford is joining the Golden State Warriors on a multi-year contract, according to ESPN insider Shams Charania. While the five-time All-Star didn’t confirm the new deal, Horford posted a heartfelt farewell to the Boston Celtics on Sunday.

“From the moment we arrived, you have welcomed my family and I with open arms,” Horford wrote on social media. “This chapter in my career will hold a special place in my heart. Raising banner 18 with this city will be a moment I will always cherish. I am forever grateful for the fans and the organization. Thank you, Boston.”

Horford spent seven of the last nine seasons in Boston, playing for the Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder before rejoining the Celtics in 2021-22. The center averaged 11.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists over 465 regular-season games with the organization.

Horford ended his 17th NBA season by capturing his first championship. He played a crucial role in Boston’s title run, recording a 47.8 field-goal percentage during the postseason. The Celtics eliminated the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals behind a superb Game 5 performance from Horford, who tallied 22 points, 15 boards, five assists and three blocks.

The 2010-11 All-NBA star averaged 9.0 points over 60 games for Boston last season and continued playing key minutes during the playoffs.

Amid retirement rumors, Horford will keep playing this season. Yet he’s moving on from the Celtics, who have already traded Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday after losing Jayson Tatum to an Achilles tear.

If Horford is headed to Golden State, the 39-year-old can help Golden State space the floor while seeking its fifth title behind Stephen Curry.
