Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber’s monster 2025 season has been overshadowed, somewhat, thanks to Shohei Ohtani’s elite year that will likely result in his third straight NL MVP award.
In the AL, there’s a fierce battle for the MVP hardware between Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh as well.
Schwarber — who spent the second half of the 2021 campaign with the Boston Red Sox — went 4-for-5 with two home runs and a double on Wednesday night, leading the Phillies to an 11-1 win over the Miami Marlins. The home runs were his NL-leading 55th and 56th of the year.
The 32-year-old All-Star may finish behind Ohtani in the NL MVP race, but Schwarber is now threatening to break Philadelphia’s single-season home run record.
First baseman Ryan Howard smashed 58 home runs for the Phillies during his MVP 2006 campaign and with four games left in the 2025 season, Schwarber will have a chance to set a new mark.

The three-time All-Star leads the majors in RBIs (132), paces the senior circuit in home runs and is second in the NL only behind Ohtani in slugging percentage (.576), OPS (.946) and total bases (340).
Schwarber has been the unquestioned MVP of the Phillies this year, playing in all 158 games thus far and helping them run away with the NL East crown.
