Mark Wahlberg expects big things from the New England Patriots.
New England is 1-2 to start the Mike Vrabel era, but Wahlberg still has high hopes for the 2025 season. The Hollywood star and Boston native made a bold declaration while appearing on ESPN’s “First Take” on Thursday to promote his new movie, “Play Dirty.”
“We’re going to the playoffs,” Wahlberg told Stephen A. Smith. “I believe in Vrabel.”
Wahlberg felt the Patriots should have defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday despite surrendering five turnovers. They outgained their opponents by 166 yards in the frustrating Week 3 loss.
For the first time in a while, Wahlberg feels emotionally invested while watching the Patriots.

“They’re starting to look good,” Wahlberg said. “For the last couple of years, I had no stress. And I found myself sitting on the couch with my son, feeling anxiety again. Getting that knot in my stomach, right? I lose my appetite.”
Putting the Patriots in the playoffs is a worthy hot take after consecutive 4-13 campaigns, but Wahlberg didn’t stop there. The 54-year-old ultimately expects the organization to reclaim its past glory.
“We’re going back,” Wahlberg insisted. “We’re gonna be back.”

“Where?” Smith asked.
“To the promised land.”
Drake Maye’s offense has shown potential in September, but the Patriots have still dropped both games at Gillette Stadium. Others may need to see consistent success before sharing Wahlberg’s unwavering optimism.
