The New York Giants have begun the 2025 season 0-3, and on Tuesday, they decided to make a big change. Per NFL Network’s insider Ian Rapoport, the Giants are making rookie QB Jaxson Dart their starter, replacing the veteran Russell Wilson.
Dart, 22, was the No. 25 pick by the Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss.
Dart, a highly touted quarterback from Corner Canyon High in Utah, began his college career at USC in 2021 after earning Gatorade National Player of the Year honors.
Seeking a starting role, Dart transferred to Ole Miss in 2022. He thrived there under Lane Kiffin, starting all 49 games over three seasons. In 2022, he threw for 2,495 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight picks, adding 1,288 rushing yards and 10 scores.

Dart’s 2023 breakout saw 3,364 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, to go along with 1,146 rushing yards and 14 rushing TDs. In 2024, Dart amassed 3,875 yards, 25 TDs and and six picks, with 495 rushing yards and three scores, leading Ole Miss to an 11-2 record and a Peach Bowl win.
Dart will make his debut as an NFL starter on Sunday at home against Justin Herbert and the 3-0 Los Angeles Chargers.
New York’s schedule won’t be doing them any favors in Dart’s first handful of starts. After a favorable matchup next Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, Dart and the Giants will face the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles twice, as well as the Denver Broncos on the road in subsequent games.
