Garrett Crochet likely closed his book on a spectacular 2025 regular season with the Boston Red Sox. Their new ace is ready to keep going.

Crochet led Boston to a monumental 7-1 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night. The 26-year-old leads MLB with 205 1/3 innings pitched after tossing eight scoreless frames at the Rogers Centre.

While the converted reliever has worked far more than anticipated, Crochet has turned his attention to anchoring Boston’s playoff rotation.

“I don’t intend on that being my last one,” Crochet said after Wednesday’s start, per MassLive’s Christoper Smith.

The Red Sox can clinch a playoff berth on Thursday, which would ensure Crochet doesn’t pitch again until opening the American League Wild Card Series. Boston moved the AL Cy Young Award candidate up a day to give him extra rest for the potential postseason start.

“He did his job, and now the rest of us have to finish it,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said of Crochet after the win. “Hopefully he can pitch Game 1.”

Injuries derailed Crochet’s career until he moved to the rotation and pitched 146 innings for the Chicago White Sox last season. The southpaw already shattered that career high before the playoffs, where he can make multiple more turns if the Red Sox go on a prolonged October run.

Assuming his season is complete, Crochet finishes his first year in Boston with 18 wins, a 2.59 ERA and MLB-leading 255 strikeouts. His teammates could try to re-open the AL Cy Young Award race if the Detroit Tigers use Tarik Skubal against the Red Sox this weekend to avoid a historic September collapse.

The Red Sox haven’t managed Crochet’s workload all season, so that’s unlikely to change if they make the playoffs.
