The 2026 MLB season will reportedly begin away from cable.
Netflix will exclusively stream next year’s Opening Day game between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants, according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand. It’s part of a three-year deal between Netflix and MLB.
In addition, Netflix will reportedly stream the Home Run Derby and share the rights to special events such as the “Field of Dreams” game, MLB Speedway Classic and Rickwood Field game with NBC/Peacock.
The Yankees and Giants is the only game on Wednesday, March 25. All other teams will begin their season the following day, with the Boston Red Sox starting their 2026 campaign against the Cincinnati Reds.
According to Marchand, MLB is also expected to soon announce a three-year deal with NBC/Peacock. That comes after ESPN opted out of its remaining three-year agreement.

MLB and ESPN reached a new deal that grants the network rights to license the league’s out-of-market package and in-market games for five teams. However, NBC will reportedly receive the rights to “Sunday Night Baseball” and the first round of the postseason. Peacock will also reportedly regain Sunday morning games from Roku.
While this marks Netflix’s first foray into MLB streaming, the platform maintains exclusive streaming rights to NFL games on Christmas Day. MLB already has a streaming presence, with Apple TV+ airing games on Friday night, but it would become the first major American sports league to begin a season on a streaming service.
