The Boston Celtics have undergone changes from top to bottom over the offseason. While the majority of the team’s fanbase is focused on the changes to the roster, the team’s new ownership group, led by Massachusetts native Bill Chisholm, is also worthy of attention after they purchased the team for $6.1 billion from the Grousbeck family.

With the sale, Wyc Grousbeck is no longer Boston’s lead owner, but he will remain with the team until the sale gets fully finalized in 2028. However, Grousbeck’s role with the team over the next few years has been understandably murky.

While Chisholm revealed that Grousbeck will be sticking around as the team’s CEO and alternate governor until 2028, some folks worried that these two could butt heads, especially if Chisholm doesn’t want to spend as much as Grousbeck did during his stint as the team’s owner.

However, those concerns may have been put to bed for good on Thursday at Chisholm’s introductory press conference. Grousbeck made it clear that he is committed to working with Chisholm and the C’s new ownership group in an effort to bring more titles to Boston.

“I want a third ring. And then I want a fourth one,” Grousbeck said on Thursday. “We are committed to getting it, together.”

It sounds good in concept, but it’s clear that the team is going to have to adapt from following Grousbeck’s vision to following Chisholm’s vision. The overarching message, though, is that everyone involved wants to win, no matter the cost.

Time will tell whether or not that’s the truth, but for now, everyone is saying exactly what the fans want to hear. Soon enough, the Celtics will report for training camp, and in less than a month, the 2025-26 season will be underway.
