Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason is impressed with New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.
The Patriots selected Maye third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft to be their franchise quarterback. Maye has been stellar to begin his sophomore season, and he has impressed Esiason, who is a former MVP and Super Bowl champion.
“Really impressive, almost 70 percent passing,” Esiason said about Maye during Monday’s “The Greg Hill Show” episode. “Again, no turnovers, that’s the key. He’s throwing the ball down the field. I mean, a couple of these throws down the field are really spectacular. You are getting these big plays…
“I can’t say enough about the way the kid is playing. He’s absolutely living up to everything they could have expected him to live up to. … This is a team on the rise and a lot has to do with Drake Maye’s ascendancy to one of the better quarterbacks in the league.”
It’s high praise from Esiason, who believes Maye is on track to be one of the top NFL quarterbacks in the league.

Maye went 18-for-26 for 261 yards and three touchdowns in New England’s 25-19 road win over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Despite mounting praise, Maye feels like he has to be better. He credited the Patriots defense for Sunday’s win, as New England had scored just three points in the second half.
“We have more work to do, I think that’s the big thing,” Maye said postgame. “It feels good getting a win consistently; three in a row, and we have to keep going. It feels good to win again, and to win on the road, it’s always nice to win on the road. I’m just trying to step up leadership-wise. The defense played and covered us in the second half. “
