The Boston Bruins have some intriguing roster camp battles, but one young forward appears to have done enough to make the opening night roster.

Boston was active this offseason, signing several depth players to improve the bottom six of their lineup and make it harder to play against.

One player who was battling for a roster spot was 25-year-old Matej Blumel, who signed a one-year, $875,000 deal with the Bruins this offseason.

Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic believes Blumel has earned a roster spot.

“Blumel has practiced as the right-side shooter on the No. 2 PP unit,” Shinzawa wrote in a piece published Thursday. “He’s taken five-on-five shifts with Zacha.

“These are signals the Bruins are comfortable with the ex-Dallas Star breaking camp with the varsity as either the No. 2 left wing or No. 3 right wing,” Shinzawa added. “One more good preseason appearance could help the 25-year-old wrap up his spot.”

The Edmonton Oilers selected Blumel in the fourth round of the 2019 NHL Draft. However, he never signed, and after his draft rights expired, he signed with the Dallas Stars.

With the Stars, Blumel skated in 13 games in parts of two seasons, recording two goals. But, after battling to make the NHL, Blumel appears set to be a full-time player for the Bruins this season.
