Boston Bruins head coach Marco Sturm thinks Joonas Korpisalo was the reason why the team won in overtime on Thursday.
The Bruins played their season opener against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday in the second half of a back-to-back. Boston started Korpisalo after Jeremy Swayman got the start in the season-opening win over the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
Boston led 3-2 early in the third period but gave up a tying goal. After that, Korpisalo was solid, including making some key saves in OT.
Following the win, Sturm had plenty of praise for Koprisalo. Sturm claimed Korpisalo was the reason the Bruins won the game.
“He was excellent,” Sturm said of Korpisalo, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “We had no business in OT to come out as the winner, but we did because of him. He made unbelievable saves. It was nice to see both goalies were excellent, and we need them. We’re coming together as a group, and it’s nice to see our goalies have been, so far, our best players, and hopefully it’s going to continue like that.”
