The Boston Red Sox have a chance to add some significant lineup reinforcements this offseason.

On the heels of a postseason appearance, Boston could pursue a free-agent slugger to ascend closer to title contention in 2026. Reuniting with a short-lived Red Sox star may make sense this winter.

FanSided’s Robert Murray highlighted the Red Sox as a potential landing spot for Kyle Schwarber. While the insider named the Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies as the two best fits, Murray mentioned two other squads that would make sense for the designated hitter.

“If you’re the Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants or any other franchise looking to compete for a World Series, you add Schwarber and don’t think twice,” Murray wrote.

Murray anticipates Schwarber receiving a “substantial” three-to-four-year contract after a dominant 2025. He crushed a National League-high 56 home runs with a .928 OPS and MLB-leading 132 RBIs.

Schwarber should have no trouble exceeding the $79 million deal he received when joining the Phillies four years ago. The left-hander helped the Red Sox reach the 2021 American League Championship Series as a midseason acquisition, batting .291/.435/.522 in 41 games before hitting three postseason home runs.

Schwarber would replace Rafael Devers as an elite and durable left-handed slugger. While Devers played 163 games because of the midseason trade to San Francisco, Schwarber was one of five players to play 162 games this season.

Murray also mentioned the Red Sox as a top fit to retain Alex Bregman, who will reportedly opt out of his contract. The insider identified the Detroit Tigers as a top competitor for the All-Star third baseman, predicting Bregman will “do well” back on the free-agent market.
