An NFL coach sees similarities between Drake Maye and a future Hall of Fame quarterback.

Maye is in his second NFL season and has taken a massive step this season. The sophomore quarterback threw for 222 touchdowns and two touchdowns in a 31-13 road win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

With the Patriots down 10-3, Maye went on a clinical drive, including a 19-yard run and a beautiful 22-yard completion to Mack Hollins, which was part of a 93-yard touchdown drive.

Following the game, an anonymous NFL coach spoke to The Athletic’s Mike Sando and compared Maye’s throws to Aaron Rodgers.

“That explosive (pass) to Hollins was (Aaron) Rodgers-like,” the coach said, in a piece published on Monday.

Rodgers is a four-time NFL MVP and a future Hall of Famer, who’s known for his arm strength, so Maye’s throws being compared to the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is a big-time compliment from an NFL coach.

Another rival executive, meanwhile, had high praise for Maye and believes the Patriots have found the guy.

“For the first time, football people view Maye as possibly being a guy,” another executive told Sando. “He has always looked the part because of his measurables, but the game had not slowed down enough for him to develop that stuff.”

Maye is sixth in the NFL in passing yards as he’s thrown for 1744 yards, 12 touchdowns, and two interceptions this season.

The Patriots will host the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in Week 8.
