It’s safe to say the Patriots didn’t enter last Sunday’s game with the utmost respect for Titans defensive backs.
No, seriously. Kayshon Boutte will tell you all about it.
Boutte caught two passes for 55 yards and a touchdown in New England’s 31-13 victory in Tennessee. He delivered his biggest play shortly before halftime, a 39-yard TD grab with star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed in coverage.
After the game, Boutte delivered a candid assessment of Titans DBs when asked about the big play.
“We talked about it all week, really,” Boutte told reporters, via NBC Sports Boston. “Just launching the ball deep, and I think that was one of the opportunities we took.

“I’d say really lazy play from the cornerback and safety room on the Titans’ side of it. So, it’s just a play we took advantage of. Two-minute situation, trying to score before halftime so we can come back out and score after. So, I think we did a great job — great throw and great catch.”
Boutte’s take was harsh — but fair.

While Sneed has received most of the criticism for the play, the reality is that he was hung out to dry by safety Quandre Diggs, who was caught napping and flat-footed. The Patriots clearly identified “lazy” tendencies from Tennessee’s secondary and devised a plan to exploit them.
For what it’s worth, Titans interim head coach Mike McCoy offered a different take on Monday.
“I don’t agree with it,” McCoy told reporters when asked about Boutte’s remarks. “I think our players have prepared and played hard, week in and week out. I do not agree with it.”
