The Boston Red Sox are on an upward trajectory after improving their record in each of the last two seasons — a trend they hope to continue in 2026.
But first, they must navigate a pivotal offseason and address several pressing needs, including adding an elite starting pitcher and impact slugger.
Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is confident he has the resources to meet those needs and keep improving the roster through either trade or free agency.
“Obviously, avoiding specifics around players and not knowing exactly what the market will look like, we feel confident that we’re going to have the resources,” Breslow told The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey at this week’s GM meetings in Las Vegas. “We need to continue to put our foot on the gas and find ways to improve so that we can take another step forward heading to ‘26.”
Boston increased spending last year, exceeding the luxury tax threshold for the first time since 2022. The franchise was rewarded with its most wins and first playoff appearance since 2021.

Breslow said he has ownership’s support in putting a competitive team on the field again in 2026.
“I think we are aligned on what we’re trying to achieve on the field and ensuring that we have the resources to achieve them,” Breslow told McCaffrey.

Breslow also vowed to be aggressive this winter and do everything he can to improve the Red Sox heading into next year.
“My expectation is we’re gonna do everything we possibly can to build a team that’s going to win more games in 2026 than we did in 2025,” he said.
