The Boston Red Sox have some questions to answer this offseason, but they’ll head into the winter boasting plenty of talent for a 2026 push.

MLB.com’s Mike Petriello ranked all 30 rosters to commence the offseason on Friday. The analyst placed the Red Sox at No. 7, identifying their two most significant needs to address.

“It’s excessively clear what the team is looking for here, because they’ve been pretty openly talking about it already, which is ‘a top starter to pair with Garrett Crochet and a power bat who can play the infield,'” Petriello wrote.

Petriello anticipated “a ton of rumors” to surface around free agents Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber. That prediction seems to be accurate thus far.

Unfortunately for Boston, the American League East should remain highly competitive next year.

Even with outfielders Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham hitting free agency, Petriello ranked the New York Yankees second behind the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Toronto Blue Jays reside one spot ahead of the Red Sox after their AL title.

Meanwhile, the Baltimore Orioles are one spot behind Boston following a 75-win season. They still have plenty of young talent to jump back into playoff contention under first-year manager Craig Albernaz.

At No. 15, the Tampa Bay Rays are the only AL East team outside the top 10.

Bregman and Lucas Giolito could sign elsewhere, but Crochet and Roman Anthony return to headline an intriguing roster capable of returning to the playoffs and headlining a long-term contender.
