The Boston Red Sox could attempt to acquire an impact starting pitcher for the second straight offseason.
Garrett Crochet gave the Red Sox a bona fide ace, but they can use another high-end hurler to accompany him and Brayan Bello. An insider identified a potential trade option that could make sense for Boston if available.
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi floated the Red Sox as an “interesting fit” for Milwaukee Brewers starter Freddy Peralta. Morosi said Boston has a deep farm system and outfield depth to move for a high-end starter.
“They’re, I think, one starting pitcher away from making a real run at this,” Morosi said of the Red Sox on Monday’s “Hot Stove.”
Some may question why the Brewers would deal Peralta. After all, they won an MLB-best 97 games and their third straight National League Central title with help from the right-hander, who went 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA and 204 strikeouts in a career-high 176 2/3 innings.

However, Morosi noted that trading Peralta before a contract year would fit Milwaukee’s MO. The Brewers traded ace Corbin Burnes after the 2023 season and star closer Devin Williams last offseason.
“When you have a significant piece in the final year before free agency, they have to listen,” Morosi said. “That is in their DNA.”
Free agent Dylan Cease is the only pitcher besides Peralta to record at least 200 strikeouts in each of the last three seasons. The two-time All-Star could draw considerable interest if shopped, but USA Today’s Bob Nightengale claimed the Brewers intend to keep him this winter.
