The Major League Baseball season is underway, and fans should expect fireworks over the next few months.
In a piece published Monday, insider Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY identified 17 star players who’ll be on the trade block this winter. Nightengale also firmly shut down speculation of superstar pitchers Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes being traded.
Here’s the full list:
— P Joe Ryan, Minnesota Twins
— P Pablo Lopez, Minnesota Twins
— P Hunter Greene, Cincinnati Reds
— 2B Ketel Marte, Arizona Diamondbacks
— P Sandy Alcantara, Miami Marlins
— OF Fernando Tatis Jr., San Diego Padres
— P Sonny Gray, St. Louis Cardinals
— 1B Christian Walker, Houston Astros
— 3B Nolan Arenado, St. Louis Cardinals
— P Freddy Peralta, Milwaukee Brewers
— P MacKenzie Gore, Washington Nationals
— OF Steven Kwan, Cleveland Guardians
— OF Jarren Duran, Boston Red Sox
— P Edward Cabrera, Miami Marlins
— P Mitch Keller, Pittsburgh Pirates
— P Luis Severino, Athletics
— OF Spencer Jones (prospect), New York Yankees
That’s a star-studded list, especially when you consider Tatis might be the fourth-best player on it.

Time will tell whether any of those stars get traded. But if even a third of the players on that list are dealt, the moves would make for one of the more entertaining offseasons in recent years.
