The annual MLB general managers’ meetings are underway, and the Boston Red Sox continue to be linked to Minnesota Twins All-Star starting pitcher Joe Ryan.

The latest MLB insider to connect Boston to the right-hander is ESPN’s Jeff Passan, who revealed his “perfect offseason moves” for 21 teams (including all 12 playoff teams for the 2025 season) on Tuesday.

Passan’s suggestion for Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and company is to trade for Ryan.

“At the trade deadline this past season, the Red Sox believed they were close to landing Joe Ryan, an elite arm who had his best year yet for the Twins in 2025. As long as Red Sox ownership keeps the financial clamps on chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, he’ll need to get creative in improving a Red Sox team that’s already quite good,” the insider wrote. “Revisiting what he missed at the deadline is the simplest way to do so, and as much as the Twins say they want to win in 2026, they understand: Now is the time to strike and dealing Boston another front-line starter to pair alongside Garrett Crochet is the way to do it.”

Boston reportedly came “close” to landing Ryan over the summer amid the 29-year-old’s first All-Star campaign.

Since then, multiple MLB analysts and experts have predicted that the Red Sox will finish the job this offseason.

Ryan went 13-10 with a career-best 3.42 ERA, as well as a 1.03 WHIP and 194 strikeouts across 171 innings pitched in 2025.
