After putting together a big 2025 campaign that saw the team reach the postseason, the Boston Red Sox are set for a very important offseason. If the front office can do a good job in acquiring impact players who can help increase the ceiling of this team, it could become a World Series contender before you know it.

Last offseason, the Sox took some big steps in the right direction by making some big additions. Easily the best of the bunch saw the team acquire starting pitcher Garrett Crochet in a blockbuster trade with the Chicago White Sox.

Rumors have been flying around suggesting that Boston could be active on the trade market once again. Team president Sam Kennedy seemed to confirm that train of thought, citing the trade for Crochet as an example of how these sorts of moves could be beneficial for the team.

“Hopefully we see an offseason where more trades are made, in addition to free agent signings, to fill the needs that clubs have,” Kennedy said on “Monster Territory.” “We used that as a weapon to acquire Garrett Crochet, and we saw what he did for us this year.”

Boston is in a very good spot this offseason. Not only does the front office have the assets to pull off a trade similar to the one they made for Crochet last year, but they also have a boatload of money to spend after trading Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants midway through last season.

The 2025 campaign was a bit step in the right direction for the Red Sox, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. How the team attacks the offseason could ultimately determine how successful they are in 2026, and if Kennedy is to be believed, it sounds like another big trade could be in the works.
