The Boston Red Sox are reportedly looking to make upgrades to their bullpen this offseason.

Boston has yet to make a roster move this free agency, but the Red Sox have been checking in on multiple players. MLB insider Will Sammon of The Athletic reported that Boston is one of many teams that are interested in signing Devin Williams.

“One week into free agency, approximately 12 teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds, expressed interest in Williams, league sources said,” Sammon wrote, in an article published on Wednesday.

Williams is a two-time MLB All-Star and is a two-time National League Reliever of the Year. He spent the 2025 MLB season with the New York Yankees, but struggled in his lone season in New York.

Although Williams struggled last season, he remains confident he can return to form in 2026.

Meanwhile, an NL executive told Sammon that Williams is an elite bullpen piece.

“He should be viewed as someone who can be an elite option,” one high-ranking National League club official said.

Williams went 4-6 with a 4.79 ERA last season with the Yankees. He had mixed results, and the reliever admitted he got the full New York experience.

“It’s a unique place to play,” Williams said about New York. “It’s a special place to play. They have a lot of history, a fan base that wants to win, and a fan base that is very passionate about their team. So it was really cool to experience something like that. To be able to say that I played for that team for at least a year will be something really cool to look back on.”

Williams was the NL Rookie of the Year in 2020.
