Aaron Glenn could be on the Jerod Mayo path, and he certainly has taken a page out of the ex-Patriots coach’s book over the last 24 hours.

The New York Jets’ coach is on the hot seat, with the team’s season an abject disaster. He was a long-sought-after coach, but the Jets have been a mess, including in areas he was supposed to fix. Glenn seems to be in over his head, and not making it to a second season is very much on the table.

Glenn sure sounded like a coach in trouble after getting obliterated by the Patriots on Sunday. In his opening statement, he didn’t take long to call out his players’ effort. While some players concurred that the effort wasn’t good enough, that nevertheless is a nuclear comment for a coach in Glenn’s position to make.

But after what must’ve been an uncomfortable time watching the game back, Glenn on Monday reversed course regarding the effort.

Of course, saying one thing that turns everyone’s head and walking it back a day later became a hallmark of Mayo’s ill-fated tenure with the Patriots.

Glenn making such a damning comment about his team and then very quickly reversing course can be taken any number of ways. At the least, it’s a microcosm of how helter-skelter things are for the Glenn-led Jets.

Sure, maybe effort isn’t the problem. But we can’t imagine what he actually uncovered was much better, seeing as they lost 42-10.
