Are the Arizona Diamondbacks actually serious players for Alex Bregman?

Recent rumors indicate the Diamondbacks are interested in signing the superstar infielder. Bregman, one of the top free agents on the market, signed with the Boston Red Sox last offseason but opted out of the deal this winter.

On Wednesday, Diamondbacks insider John Gambadoro of KMVP-FM provided an update on the Bregman-Arizona chatter.

“I would put the Dbacks’ chances of landing Alex Bregman in the longshot category while not being able to rule it out completely,” Gambadoro wrote on X. “I believe it is more than likely the agent, Scott Boras, trying to drive up the price and using Arizona as leverage. He does live here and I’m sure would love to be a Diamondback but I would think his asking price is out of range.”

Bregman, 31, is coming off an excellent first season in Boston, albeit one that saw him limited to just 114 games due to injuries.

The three-time All-Star hit .273 with 18 homers, 62 RBIs and an .821 OPS while playing Gold Glove Award-caliber defense at third base. Bregman also emerged as an important leader in the Red Sox’s increasingly young clubhouse.
