The Boston Red Sox have been very busy on the trade market this offseason, but the same cannot be said when it comes to free agency. However, they could still re-sign one of the biggest names on the open market, third baseman Alex Bregman.
After a strong 2025 campaign, Bregman opted out of his deal with the Red Sox and opted to test the waters of free agency again. With guys like Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso coming off the board quickly, Boston has had a renewed sense of urgency when it comes to re-signing Bregman.
While reports have been murky when it comes to whether or not the Sox will bring Bregman back to town, the All-Star slugger made an interesting move on social media that could be hinting at his upcoming decision. Fans were quick to notice that Bregman changed his profile picture on his Instagram account back to a picture of him in a Red Sox uniform.
In his first season with the Red Sox, Bregman was a perfect fit with the team. In 114 games, the three-time All-Star hit .273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs, while also emerging as a leader in the clubhouse on a team full of young stars.

Bringing Bregman back to town on a long-term deal is perhaps the most logical move Boston could make throughout the remainder of the offseason. He’s already familiar with the team, and they still need at least one more big bat to anchor their lineup.
This social media change could mean nothing, but it has certainly gotten fans hopeful that Bregman could be re-signing in the near future. As a result, his status in free agency will be worth keeping tabs on over the coming days.
