The Boston Red Sox are reportedly still looking to sign a bat or two to bolster their lineup, and now that Kyle Schwarber’s officially off the board to the Philadelphia Phillies, most people expect the Red Sox to zero in on re-signing Alex Bregman and/or signing Pete Alonso.
Indeed, Boston needs some more slug, but on that note, a lot of fans and analysts have forgotten about Triston Casas, who’s expected to return to health in 2026. Casas, if his body allows it, could provide the Red Sox with the type of slug they’re seeking. He was supposed to do that in 2025 before a ruptured left patellar tendon in early May doomed his entire season.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora was asked about Casas on Tuesday at MLB Winter Meetings during an interview with MLB Network’s Harold Reynolds and Matt Vasgersian. Cora seemed excited to hear Casas brought up.
“I’m glad you mentioned him, because throughout this (offseason) process, the last month, not too many people are talking about Triston, you know?” Cora said.

“Last year, if you think about that lineup in Texas for Opening Day, it was Raffy (Devers) hitting second, Alex (Bregman) hitting third, and Triston was hitting fourth. So this guy, he’s still talented, he’s still a good hitter.”
“We just got to get him healthy,” Cora continued. “He’s been in Fort Myers the whole time (rehabbing) … there’s no timetable right now, we just got to get him right, and hopefully he can contribute next year.”
When Reynolds suggested that Casas is the type of guy who’s motivated to prove his doubters wrong and silence negative noise on social media, Cora pretty much agreed and noted, half-jokingly that, “(Triston’s) Instagram account is kinda, like, weird.”
