With only two weeks left in the NFL regular season, the New England Patriots have already clinched a playoff spot. Now they have their sights set on bigger goals, such as the No. 1 seed in the AFC and perhaps a championship.
That’s wild considering that just a few months ago, many were wondering if the Patriots were good enough to make the playoffs. Now, the question has become are they good enough to win the Super Bowl?
On Monday’s episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast,” Simmons made his case for why he thinks New England can reach the Super Bowl for the first time since Tom Brady left.
“The AFC is wide open. They have a quarterback who potentially might have real greatness in him. They can run the ball just enough. They should be able to get enough of their offensive line back in time for January. Their defense is feisty. It’s a tough team. It’s a real together team, they have good chemistry. They’re going to have at least one home game in the playoffs,” Simmons said.
Simmons was also impressed by the Patriots’ comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football, which proved the team’s toughness, resiliency and ability to make big plays under pressure.

Cousin Sal agreed with Simmons, saying a Super Bowl run by New England is conceivable.
The Patriots’ odds of reaching the Super Bowl will improve considerably if they secure the one seed and earn a first-round bye, plus home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. That would be huge, especially if they have to play a team like the Buffalo Bills or Denver Broncos that flourishes at home.
Time will tell if New England has what it takes to make or win the Super Bowl this year, but it’s definitely within the realm of possibility.
