The Boston Bruins picked up a big 5-2 home win over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.

Boston got back into the win column after a 5-4 road loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday. With the Bruins returning home, star forward Morgan Geekie said the team knew they had to use the home crowd to their advantage.

“We had kind of a mentality to start off on the right foot tonight,” Geekie said on Thursday, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “I feel like the last few we’ve been a little slow. Just come out of the gates hot, use the crowd to our advantage, and I thought we did that tonight.”

It was a statement win for the Bruins, who improved to 10-5-0 on home ice, showing the importance of playing well in front of their fans.

Bruins head coach, Marco Sturm, meanwhile, said he made sure the team started strong, especially at home.

“I was just very happy with the way we started today,” Sturm said. “We addressed it yesterday, today, before the game. The guys did it well. We don’t want to chase the game, and I think overall we are a better team when we have the lead.”

Boston is now 16-13-0 this season and in second place in the Atlantic Division.
