The Boston Bruins are reportedly looking to bolster their roster ahead of the trade deadline.

Boston has gotten off to a hot start this season and is in playoff contention. With the Bruins looking to earn a playoff spot, the team is expected to be buyers ahead of the trade deadline, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Friedman reports that the Bruins are looking to acquire a scoring winger and believes the team is interested in Matias Maccelli from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

“It hasn’t worked out for him in Toronto,” Friedman said on 32 Thoughts on Dec. 12. “I think it’s likely (he gets traded). I don’t know if that’s still the case now. But you always look at who were the other teams that were maybe interested in acquiring him.

” I know the Bruins were there. I know they’re still looking for a scoring winger, as well as they’re going. I’m not sure if Matias Maccelli’s going to be their guy still, or they look for someone else.”

As Friedman reported, Boston was one of the teams that tried to trade for Maccelli, but the Utah Mammoth dealt him to Toronto. However, he hasn’t been a fit with the Maple Leafs as he’s been scratched since Nov. 28, so Toronto likely would be open to moving him, and the cost wouldn’t be too high.

With the Maple Leafs, Maccelli has skated in 22 games, recording four goals and five assists for nine points. His career-high came in 2023-24 as he had 17 goals and 40 assists for 57 points.

Ultimately, even if the Bruins don’t look to acquire Maccelli, Friedman expects Boston to try and add a scoring winger to the lineup.
