Boston Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown has been an open book with fans this season, but he’s communicating through non-traditional means. While Brown has fulfilled his duties with the mainstream media (as NBA players are required to do), JB has been way more active as a live streamer, making consistent appearances on Twitch to interact with fans.

There’s a reason why Brown has been streaming more, and he explained it during a recent appearance as a guest on White Noise, Derrick White’s podcast.

“The reason I started streaming (is) just because I feel like … I’m gonna just be candid. The media is … is very lazy,” Brown said. “I know controversy is what sells. So anytime they can put out something negative, they know they’re gonna get more clicks, more engagement. That’s what people, accounts, things like that … that’s not actual journalism. You don’t get to get the full story. You only get to get the negative aspect of it. That’s what everybody gets to see first.”

“And then most people … they’re not gonna look into what actually happened,” Brown continued. “And they’re just gonna see the headline. And then that’s what they’re gonna go with.”

Brown made some excellent points. It’s a treat that JB has been outspoken during streams this season, as fans have gotten to know him more. It’s also coming during a time when Brown’s play on the court has reached a new level.

Brown has fulfilled the No. 1 option role with flying colors amid Jayson Tatum’s absence. Following offseason trades sending Jrue Holiday to Portland and Kristaps Porzingis to Atlanta, plus the departures of Luke Kornet and Al Horford in free agency, expectations for this Celts team dipped, with many predicting they would miss the playoffs. Yet, Brown has propelled Boston to an 18-11 record, good for third in the Eastern Conference as of Tuesday.

Through 27 games, Brown is averaging 29.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game on 49.7 percent shooting from the field. He has poured in 30 or more points in his last seven outings, including a 31-point, nine-rebound effort in a comeback 103-95 win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday, where he scored 14 points in the fourth quarter after returning from a one-game illness absence.
