Boston Celtics fans hoping to see three-time MVP Nikola Jokic take the court at TD Garden during the team’s matchup vs. the Denver Nuggets on Jan. 7 received some disappointing news on Tuesday.

“Injury Update: Nikola Jokić suffered a Left Knee Hyperextension injury during last night’s game at the Miami Heat. Nikola will be re-evaluated in four weeks,” the Nuggets official account posted on Bluesky.

The Celtics and Nuggets will play their second of two head-to-head matchups this season on Feb. 25 in Denver.

Boston swept the perennial contenders’ pair of meetings during the 2024-25 campaign, including a 118-106 decision out west last Jan. 7 in a contest that Jokic didn’t play.

The “Joker” suited up during the Celtics’ 110-103 home victory though, finishing the defeat with a near-triple-double of 20 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists.

Jokic is having another MVP-caliber season, averaging a triple-double for the second straight year with 29.6 points, 12.2 rebounds (league-high) and 11.0 assists per contest (league-high).
