Patrick Mahomes has several career similarities to Tom Brady, but the most unfortunate one came true for Mahomes on Sunday.
Mahomes sustained a torn ACL during the Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Chargers. This injury is particularly notable as he is now in his ninth NFL season, mirroring a similar situation for Brady, who also tore his ACL back in 2008 during his ninth season in the league.
The key difference between the two injuries is that Brady tore his ACL in Week 1, which caused him to miss the entire season. In contrast, Mahomes suffered his injury in Week 15, allowing him to play for a significant part of the year.
Mahomes and Brady are often compared, as many fans consider them the greatest quarterbacks of the Super Bowl era. Mahomes probably never imagined he would experience the same knee injury that Brady suffered in year nine.

Although Mahomes is facing a challenge now, he can take inspiration from what Brady accomplished after suffering his ACL injury — winning four more Super Bowls and playing an additional 14 seasons. It may seem harsh for Mahomes and the Chiefs at the moment, but if he can follow the Brady blueprint, brighter days are definitely ahead.
