The Patriots clinched the AFC East division title on Sunday, but quarterback Drake Maye is hoping that New England can also secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

“Yeah, I think winning the division is what we’re focused on,” Maye said on Sunday. “We’ve still got to win out to win the division. That was our mindset, and if that means the one seed’s at play, then that’s what we’re trying to do because we’re trying to win the division and win the AFC East.”

The Patriots defeated the New York Jets 42-10 on Sunday, and it was a crucial win for them to stay in the race for the AFC East division.

After conquering the Jets, all the Patriots needed to secure the division title was either to beat Miami in Week 18 or hope that the Buffalo Bills stumbled against the Philadelphia Eagles later that evening.

Buffalo lost to Philadelphia, which secured the AFC East title for New England. Now, the Patriots can focus on their goal of claiming the No. 1 seed next week.

However, the Patriots need some help, as the Denver Broncos control their own fate in the race for the top seed. If the Broncos defeat the Los Angeles Chargers next week, the AFC playoffs will run through Empower Field at Mile High.
