Drake Maye delivered a nearly flawless performance in Sunday’s landslide win over the New York Jets.
The New England Patriots cruised to a 42-10 victory behind a stellar day from their star quarterback. Maye completed 19 of 21 passes for 256 and five touchdowns before taking an early seat in the third quarter.
Maye accomplished more history in the Week 17 rout. NFL researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming noted that Maye became the first player to ever complete 90 percent of his passes with 250 passing yards and five touchdowns in a game.
The 23-year-old connected with five different teammates on those scores, including Efton Chism III’s first career touchdown. Maye now has 30 passing touchdowns this season, becoming the first Patriots quarterback to reach that tally since Tom Brady in 2017.
He also gave the Patriots their first 4,000-yard passing season since Brady in 2019. Furthermore, Maye’s 71.7 completion percentage would be the seventh-highest single-season clip in NFL history.

New England ended each of its first six drives inside the end zone, giving the AFC East squad a 42-3 lead midway through the third quarter. Mike Vrabel took mercy on his division rival, pulling Maye for Joshua Dobbs with the game in hand and the postseason on the horizon.
Maye finished with an almost-perfect 157.0 passer rating and secured a perfect 8-0 road record for the Patriots. He might have made significant ground on Matthew Stafford in the MVP race entering the season’s final week.
New England can clinch the AFC East if the Buffalo Bills lose to the Philadelphia Eagles. If not, Maye and the Patriots can secure the division crown by defeating the Miami Dolphins in Week 18.
