Josh Allen showed Sunday why he and the Buffalo Bills are the class of the AFC East until the Patriots make a statement in the postseason.

But he knows that New England is no joke.

Allen crafted a 21-point comeback Sunday on the way to a 35-31 victory, which, at least for this week, kept the Patriots not only from winning the division.

The Patriots’ rise has been meteoric, and with that has come trepidation about how much of it is a mirage. Results like Sunday’s cast further doubt, but Allen did not see a team tightening up down the stretch as backs got pushed further to the wall.

I wouldn’t say that. That’s a fantastic team,” Allen said after the game, via a team-provided transcript. “I think you said they won ten straight — you don’t win ten straight by not being a really, really fantastic football team. So, again, it just kind of sometimes comes down to who makes more plays. Tonight, that was us.”

Though the Patriots are young, they have been buoyed by the array of veteran additions made over the offseason. They’ve coalesced to form a legitimate contender, but that means they need to prove disasters like the one on Sunday are one-offs.
